Let’s create a positive and enriching learning environment together!

Start with a Simple Routine
One of the biggest misconceptions about homeschooling is that it needs to replicate a traditional school setting. In reality, homeschooling thrives on flexibility. Establishing a gentle routine rather than a rigid schedule allows room for exploration, creativity, and rest. Mornings can begin with a read-aloud, followed by focused learning time, hands-on projects, and outdoor play. My day looks something like this… I get up at 6am, work out, shower, get breakfast just as the kids are getting up and then we do morning chores. School starts somewhere between 9-9:30 and we are typically done by 2pm. Of course we have snacks and lunch and “wiggle time” in there too. Some days may flow smoothly, while others may require adjustments—and that’s okay. The key is to find a rhythm that works for your family and creates a peaceful learning environment.
Choosing a Homeschooling Style
Charlotte Mason – Emphasizes living books, nature studies, and short lessons.
Traditional – Follows a structured curriculum similar to public school, often with textbooks and workbooks.
Classical – Based on the three stages of learning (grammar, logic, and rhetoric) and a strong focus on history and language.
Unschooling – Child-led learning that follows their interests rather than a set curriculum.
Eclectic – A mix of various styles, incorporating different methods based on what works best for the child.
There are many different homeschooling styles, and finding the one that aligns with your family’s values and learning approach can make all the difference. Some of the most common homeschooling styles include:
We personally use BJU Press Homeschool with Video Lessons, which provides a structured, high-quality Christian education. The video format allows for expert instruction while giving me the flexibility to support my children’s learning in a way that fits our home environment.

Keep Resources Simple and Effective
With the abundance of homeschool curricula available, it’s easy to get overwhelmed by choices. I did this for far too long. My advice if you are just beginning, start with a few solid resources and build from there. Your core curriculum will be your main support. Don’t worry about adding too much on top of that. If you do decide to add a few things, here are some of our favorites…
Some favorite homeschooling tools include:
Living books – Engaging stories that bring subjects to life.
Hands-on learning – Science experiments, nature journaling, and art projects.
Unit studies – Integrating multiple subjects into a single theme.
Audiobooks and podcasts – Great for learning on the go.
Community co-ops – Connecting with other homeschool families for group learning experiences.
Every homeschool family is unique, so it’s important to choose resources that align with your values and your child’s learning style.
Give Yourself Grace
Homeschooling is a journey for both parent and child. Some days will be filled with beautiful moments of connection, and other days will feel frustrating and messy. That’s part of the process. Give yourself permission to adapt, to take breaks when needed, and to trust that you are giving your child something invaluable—your time, attention, and love.
Remember, no homeschool day will be perfect, and perfection is not the goal. The goal is to nurture your child’s heart and mind, to create a home where learning is an extension of life, and to enjoy this season together.

Find Encouragement in Community
You are not alone in this journey. Connecting with other homeschooling families—whether through local co-ops, online groups, or casual meet-ups—can provide support, fresh ideas, and encouragement when you need it most. Sharing experiences, swapping resources, and simply knowing there are others walking a similar path can make a world of difference.

The Beauty of Home Education
Homeschooling is not about fitting into a mold; it’s about creating a rich, meaningful experience that nurtures your child’s growth and curiosity. It’s about reading stories together under a warm blanket, exploring the great outdoors as a classroom, and cherishing the moments of discovery that happen in the everyday.
So take a deep breath, trust the process, and enjoy the beauty of learning at home. Homeschooling is a gift—one that allows you to cultivate an education rooted in love, curiosity, and connection. And that is more than enough.
